Francesca Antoinette Martin was born on July 24, 2022. From day one, she has always been the happiest little girl. She instantly stole people’s hearts with her calm, sweet nature. Despite her challenges, Francesca continues to be joyful and curious. She never fails to make her family and friends smile and she consistently amazes us with her resilience and positivity, no matter her circumstances.
Francesca was diagnosed with the most severe form of MPS 1, Hurler Syndrome, when she was 14 months old in September 2023. The diagnosis came after we did further testing because of corneal clouding and spinal kyphosis, two key traits of MPS I. It took several months to finally get a clear diagnosis that aligned with the physical issues we had been seeing, largely due to her continuing to hit each and every milestone. She has never let her condition hold her back. As we approach treatment via stem cell transplant in 2024, I am confident that Francesca will continue to fight against all odds. Her strength and positivity thus far is a testament to her ability to conquer anything.
