2015 MDBR MPS Grant Awards

MDBR 12-29The National MPS Society and The Ryan Foundation teamed up this past spring to ride for research. TEAM MPS raised $50,000. The Annual Event hosted by Penn Medicine Orphan Disease Research, matched Team MPS dollar for dollar for a total of $100,000 raised! The Orphan Disease Center, (ODC), has announced this year’s MPS Grant Award Recipients:

Igor Nestrasil, MD
University of Minnesota
Mucopolysaccharidoses pilot for $50,500
Microstructural and functional MRI signatures in patients with MPS I

Charles Vite, DVM, PhD, B.S.
University of Pennsylvania

The 2nd Annual Million Dollar Bike Ride was a huge success. In just two years, the Million Dollar Bike Ride has raised over $2 million, 100% of which goes directly towards pilot research grants (with no administrative cut taken out).

The ODC is awarding 26 grants, for 16 rare diseases, to 21 institutions worldwide. Over 600 cyclists and volunteers, more than a dozen neighborhood restaurants, and several supporting sponsors and community partners participated. Twenty-three disease teams from 29 states (plus Canada, UK, Chile and the Netherlands!) rode a combined total of nearly 18,000 miles in the name of rare disease research.

Thank you everyone who participated. This was a victory because of your support. For more information about next year’s 2016 Million Dollar Bike Ride in May with TEAM MPS, please contact Terri Klein at terri@mpssociety.org.
